Sermon: “How Many Loaves Do You Have?”
Sermon Notes
Scripture: Mark 6:30-44
“How Many Loaves Do You Have?”
Reflection Points:
1) It is a biblical mistake to believe we have nothing to offer God’s work!
- Story of Moses: “I stutter; send someone else.”
- Turns into excuses: Stuttering, fear of failure, fear of persecution.
- Excuses keep us out of God’s ministry, work, evangelism, and missions.
- We miss the opportunity to work with God and be blessed!
2) This passage is in all the Gospels, so it must be important!
- Matthew 14:13-21
- Luke 9:10-17
- John 6:1-15
3) Jesus / Disciples see the situation completely different!
- Disciples see it as a major problem.
- Jesus sees it as a major opportunity.
4) How do we view major world or local situations?
- Like Jesus?
- The Disciples?
5) How many loaves do you (we) have?
- Disciples found only one young boy willing to share.
- Took what was offered – Never asked for what truly might be needed.
- What was willingly, in love, given would be enough (all it would take)!
- The miracle occurred because of need and one young boy’s willingness to give.
6) The true miracle is not feeding the 5000, but that when confronted by a serious problem, Jesus did not ask the disciples to do the impossible!
He asked only for them to bring what they had.
7) God never asks us to give what we do not have… But He cannot use what we will not give.
8 ) How many loaves do you have? The poorest person in this church today is still in the top 5% of the wealthiest people in the world.
- We are called to bring the “Good News” to all of God’s people.
- Can the poor really hear the “Good News” until their basic needs are met? Can we help feed the hungry? Heal the sick? Help the orphans and widows?
- The “Biblical” way to bring the “Good News” is to live the life that God has called you to live based on the gifts and graces He has given to all.
- Christ asked His disciples “How many loaves do you have?” Today, I believe he asks the very same question: “How many loaves do we have?”
